Hospitality Industry Leader is honored at the Seventh Annual Luxury Travel Expo
CHICAGO, IL, USA - December 18, 2006 - John Ueberroth, Chairman and CEO, Preferred Hotel Group, has been honored with Travel Agent Magazine’s prestigious “Leaders in Luxury” award. The award was presented at the seventh annual Luxury Travel Expo, in Las Vegas on December 7. The award, established in 2002, is presented to select individuals who have exemplified superior leadership in four categories: Tour, Hotel, Cruise and Travel Agents.
In commenting on the selection, Luxury Travel Advisor Associate Publisher Kimberly Ziegler said the Preferred Hotel Group CEO was successfully executing a clear vision for the company, as demonstrated by the votes from a panel of high-end agents and the editors and publishers of the magazine.
In only two years since becoming the largest shareholder of Preferred Hotel Group, Ueberroth has unveiled a series of new initiatives that have spurred dramatic growth and earned accolades from member hotels and the industry at large. Preferred Hotel Group, a family of four brands including Preferred Hotels & Resorts, Preferred Boutique, Summit Hotels & Resorts, and Sterling Hotels, has grown to a collection of more than 350 superb hotels and resorts throughout the world.
In short order, Ueberroth changed the corporate name from IndeCorp to Preferred Hotel Group, invested in new technology, launched the I Prefer ™ Guest Benefit program, reorganized the sales structure on a regional basis, and added the fast growing Preferred Boutique brand. The results – including the recent addition of more than 50 hotels to the collection, have been immediately beneficial to guests, agents and member hotels.
An innovator and a hospitality veteran, John Ueberroth has more than 30 years of executive level experience in the travel industry, ranging from global travel agencies, to airline and travel service companies, as well as major industry associations. He began his career in the travel industry at Transportation Consultants International (TCI), which became the world’s largest travel representation company, representing hotels and airlines among other businesses. Subsequently, he served as President of Ask Mr. Foster travel agency, and then as President of Carlson Travel Group. He has also served as Chairman and CEO of Hawaiian Airlines.
In addition to his role as Chairman and CEO of Preferred Hotel Group, Ueberroth is Chairman of the Board at Ambassadors Group, Inc, an education travel company and serves on the board of directors of Navigant International, Inc., the second largest travel management business service provider in North America.
